I'm thinking a of a code breaking exercise as part of a post SATS study
day for Y9

I'm thinking of something suitable for groups of 5 (about 4 at a time).
Focus is group problem solving, using maths and logic skills.

Anyone tried this and have any ideas, etc.?

Although it's finished for this year, there a still some good
resources/ideas at www.cipher.maths.soton.ac.uk

The teachers pack is quite good for giving you simple cipher ideas that Y9
could play with.

Add some kind of dark mysterious plot, intercept some PMR 446 'messages'
and you could be on your way to keep them busy ;)

Exactly what I have in mind- link to "code breaking" as in "spys" etc also
to error checking / correcting in data transmission.
