That reply would imply a question of "What are you doing?"; I'm not sure that this is really what you meant.
to send: an e-mail, a letter, but not sms?
I am sending an e-mail, I am writing/posting a letter (depending on the context), I am sending a text. (These forms use the nouns.)
On the other hand:
I will e-mail you, I will write to you, I will text you. (These forms use the verbs.)
