Re: Working away from normal location

Yup, the contract comes first. However, if you haven't got anything that
covers this situation I'd be expecting the client to pay for the time you're
unable to work for another client.

If this means 8 or 8.5 (normal working hours) * number of days
working/travelling then this would be my starting point.

It may be that you're normally only charging by the hour for short periods
of time and this installation would be an extended period, in which case you
might consider charging by the day, and therefore possibly at a lower rate
than the hourly one. But you need to consider this as a negotiation over the
rate for this new task.

Note: Many installations mean long or unsocial working hours. You need to
consider whether this would be encompassed by the daily rate you're
proposing or whether you should charge more. It all depends on the client
and your relationship with them, how reliant they are on you and how much
future business you might get from them.

It looks like I will be asked to the US for a short period to help

an installation. How do people normally charge in this case? I currently
bill
based upon number of hours worked but I can hardly charge 24 * number of
days
working or traveling.

What does the contract say ?
