Re: So how does a recruitment consultant gain a contractor's respect?

Some great comments there and I will be taking them on-board. Thank you
very much for taking the time to comment.

As I said before I will be putting a charter together so everyone knows
where he or she stands. I'm not sure about adding the margin to a
contract but agree it should be fair. In the past I have been working a
contract only to discover the agent's margin was over 30%. Profit I'm
happy with. Profiteering I'm not. They didn't even keep in touch!

<Climbs down off soapbox>

I'll keep you all posted on that, and post a copy of the charter once
it's ready. I'm considering working with other contractors as
associates who refer for a fee, say a half of the margin after expenses
or if it's a perm job; the fee. so no pathetic £250, which you have to
fight for.
If the placement fee was £3000 after admin (generally less than
£250), you get £1500. Simple. Any comments on that would be useful
too... It will all be traceable so you know exactly what is happening
and you won't be pushed out of the loop. That is important if these are
people you know and want to be looked after.

Some comments suggested a real need for understanding. Beyond my own, I
am going to be partnering with several companies who are experts in the
fields I will be recruiting for, so can discuss this with them. They
actually do the job so are better placed than me to answer technical
questions and bring more to the table. People who can - as Pete Lynch
said, "make suggestions that will get people thinking "hmmm, that's a
good idea".

Once again. Thank you for your comments. I'll keep you posted.

Best regards,

Russell West
