Does any supplier sell these ready built, or at least as a bundle with
the processor, memory and hard disk[s] etc.? All I can find is
'barebones' boxes which just have the motherboard and you have to buy
all the other bits separately. I'd prefer to have at least some
confidence that all the bits will work together though I'm quite happy
to screw it together myself.
You're worrying unnecessarily about compatibility between components,
almost any bits will work together as long as you take a little bit of
care in their selection. Why don't you pick a barebones system you like
the look of and then post either here or to uk.comp.homebuilt for some
advice on what to populate it with. There are lots of people around
here who have put together hundreds of systems.
Basically, you'll need a processor of the right socket type, memory of
the appropriate configuration and speed, a disk with the right
interface (IDE or SATA), and a graphics card with the right connector
(AGP or PCI-E).
a result. I've decided that I probably won't go for a really small
system as it seems to cost money for no great advantage.
So I'm looking at either the Asus M2NPV-VM or Asus M2N32-Sli Delux
motherboards. Can anyone suggest comparable alternatives that I might
consider? Absolutely perfect would be a motherboard with two gigabit
LAN ports and built-in graphics but I suspect this is unlikely. At
the moment I like the Asus boards above because of their fanless
design. Is anyone else producing fanless motherboards?
The only other 'difficult' issue is then a suitable case, that's a bit
of a 'how long is a piece of string' type of question I must admit.
