Re: Dell's courier?

Thanks for the info. It all makes sense.
It would seem though that good courier companies CAN offer a good
service. e.g..
http://www.business-post.com/index.asp?d=homeserve&p=nationwide-home-delivery.html

In the DELL example above, blockhed suggests DELL won't pay the courier
unless the package is delivered successfully...
- not returned to DELL because of unsuccessful delivery
- not 'stolen' coz the courier left the package without a signature
....unlike Initial City Link who seem to get paid whether the package is
delivered/not (& returned to the seller).

Evening deliveries get round this problem since there's a better chance
of the customer being there to accept the package.
- less chance of the courier having to make repeat delivery attempts
- no need to leave the package on the doorstep/with a neighbour

Surely it's short sighted of couriers not to be more flexible,
especially if they insist on delivery during the day. If customers
stopped using internet sites that have bad delivery service, the site
would be forced to find a better courier. For example, I buy wine from
Laithwaites (who use Parcel Force). I've added a note on the delivery
options to say "Leave box @ back door if no-one home". This works fine.
I do the same with a few other sites. Obviously, it wouldn't work for
everyone, but stating this on a website, is no different than signing
the courier's delivery card stating you're happy to trust them to
deliver while you're not there.
