After replacing Palindr?me with a small shell script on Friday 24 Feb
2006 08:21, the following appeared on stdout:
If it is the one I think it is, I went to look at it in my local
maplins but the one they had on display looked as if it had fallen to
bits and been put back together several times. Presumably done by
"rough customers" rather than the staff or fair wear - but it did put
me off buying it. And being glad that I don't have a shop.
There was a few different models in the shop (Llandudno) yesterday.
Overpriced, of course, but this *is* Maplin we're talking about here...
I was quite taken with the silver one with a GlidePoint, though. Might
get one to see if it is as good as it looks and, indeed, if it really
is a Synaptics or a cheapo copy with no scroll zone or two/three finger
tap detect.
However, it does seem to be one that needs one careful owner. It is
very light, but I guess some of that non slip mat stuff would keep it
in one place on the desktop - otherwise I imagine it might be always
falling off or sliding away as you type.
I have the entire bench in the workshop covered in that stuff, if it's
the stuff I think you mean. Looks like a very sloppily woven material
but feels like those things kids get great delight from throwing at
windows. Good stuff. I only knock half of the tools off the bench
now...
