Something they have not denied.

They asked the customer to check with manufacturer before returning. I know
its not legally required, but could be construed as common sense. I know if
I buy kit and its faulty, I check at the very least on the manufactureres
website for info, patches, upgrades news etc.

Its really a simple question and if James *is* beligerent enough to invoke
the law at every turn in his daily dealings then fine, he can refuse this
request. This is where common sense and people's use of it diverge somewhat.
