Not unreasonable at all.

Raise a new RMA for the replacement saying it's "faulty" and you want
it exchanging for a new one rather than a previous returned item.

I'd suspect the original was returned faulty and then returned from
the supplier having been tested as working but should have been booked
into the blow out stock rather than new stock.

Enclose a receipt for the return postage too. :-)
