synchronising sony clie

for the past few months after being able to synchronise fine, my sony clie
th55 just now gets to Org.datebook and just sits there, the synchronise
never finishes.
(I have to manually stop the application on my sony viao XP and do a soft
re-set on the clie) The cancel option does not work on either.
When I look at the sony applications on the PC the important data seems to
have been backed up.
I can delete the back up folders on the pc and all is fine..... once!
Any ideas? thanks steve
