iTunes Match

I'm semi-tempted in buying a year's subs to iTunes Match - it upgrades a bunch of files to 256kbps AAC, and it makes them more easily available to me on multiple Macs and my iPhone.

What are the gotchas to be aware of? I'm worried that it won't match some things properly and either I won't notice in time or it can't be persuaded to match them correctly. What happens then?

What happens to your original files?
