It isn't. All that's in the Mac is a WiFi card which Apple call an
Airport card. It's really no different to the WiFi card in the Windows
laptop.
You could buy any wireless base station and connect all your devices to
it very easily and cheaply. No need to buy an Airport Extreme or an
Airport Express, and no need to jump through all the hoops you're
currently doing setting up an ad hoc network to share the internet
connection of the Mac.
