Then de-select the check box that offers to put an icon on the
desktop. Or delete it. ;-) I's have to say that whole process is
easier (for me) than /putting/ a shortcut to an app on the OSX desktop

1. Open Finder
2. Select Applications Folder
3. Right click on app - select -'make alias'
4. Drag alias to desktop
Again (from another NG post about OpenOffice) - which stage do you find difficult? I still find it surprsing that you're able to skip through various OSs and apps, but have such fundamental difficulties with what seems so trivial - to me :-)
The thing that gets me about launching apps on a Mac is the way they're installed - mostly the root of the apps directory. I'd like to be able to select an install location, a subdirectory of the root, for example. really like the folde/list in the dock though - very nifty.
