(your experience will, hopefully, be more like mine than some IYSWIM, on
accout of both of us having an inclination to set things up neatly and
tidily etc)

Yes, I am much fussier about the fit than the instructional videos
suggested.

Oh god :-((((

Do they not have a written manual?

Yes, I believe so, but the videos are quite good.

Oooh! Actually, now I've watched one of those you pointed me at, it's
actually useful, totally unlike all other video tutorials for computer
stuff that I've seen before.

Wow.

Clunky and amateurish in a way, but also properly focussed with good
explanations of what to do. Okay, I like it.

They *are* amateur (see below).

(my only worry is where to put the thing - my `office' is, erm packed
like a jigsaw with norra lorra room left. Then again, my loft is now
very nearly tidy and has a lot of space, so I might be able to shift
some more bits up there. I might well end up stashing the new printer
in the ex airing cupboard, which sounds mad until you take a look.)

Not at all. My computer is in one room, and my printers and networking
boxes are in a cupboard in another room.

When I still used the old 2G4 and then the 4G5, I often wished I could
somehow fit the bloody Mac tower itself into a different room - or at
least a sound-proofed box. I nearly got round to making something using
carpet and wood. Carpet lining does wonders for HF sound absorption.

Yes, I always had such a plan on my mind too. It's not necessary with a
MacBook though. I do leave a pair of networked drives running though,
which are in this cupboard.

Hang on a bit - I thought you said there were no printer mods needed?

Which is true, I just chose to make the mods myself just to tidy up the
fitting.

(yeah, I noticed eventually - but, erm, dunno, thought I'd leave that
in. Seemed right somehow.)

No problem, I was just clarifying.

And if you look at the one for the iP3600, it's even cheaper to run:

-series>

Yeah, but at those prices, does it really matter which is cheaper to
run? Less than a quid a cartridge equivalent price - what the hell,
let's print! sortathing...

Indeed. I got mine as my daughter is doing the textiles GCSE, and can
get through printing stuff at an alarming rate sometimes.

There are some videos of the fitting procedure here (on the iP3500):

<ROFL>! Well, it's nice not to have to listen to some bloody Yank, but
where did they get *him* from?

They are from customers that have actually bought these. At one time
they offered a discount on supplies if you made an instructional video
they could use.

And it's silicone seals, not silicon...

<grin>

They may give a clearer idea of how they fit and operate.

It seems pretty straightforward, if not quite as easy as plugging in new
ink cartridges.

Yeah, at the basic level it takes about 5 minutes.

Hmm.

Yeah, all right, I think that's the way to go.

OK, hopefully we covered all the caveats, but I agree, if you have any
technical abilities at all, it seems to be a no-brainer to even just try
it out.
