For an advent calendar? Of course. I remember as a child lovingly
opening the windows as we moved towards Christmas...
Call me new fashioned but that was then and this is now and I'm
not
sure today's kids are motivated by such things as much?
My grandsons are two and (rwins) four years old, and they can still
enjoy things ike that. They also love Star Wars and watch children's
videos, but so far advent calendars and christmas seem to be things
that
they enjoy.
Yeah, my kids like Advent calendars too. We only rarely have the
cardboard ones with the little doors and windows though (depends on
grandparents or distant rellies), we have two given to us by an aunt
one
year, that are each a roll of fabric about 1m x 1m (metres, not miles)
with little felt bags sewn to them, tied up with ribbon, which are
refilled each year. Each child fills the bags for the other one, so
opening them each day has an element of surprise.
At 32, I should be ashamed to admit this, but I'm not; a few years back
my wife made (yes, made) something very similar to this for me - but
about twice the height - and every year it gets filled with goodies.
Anything from penny sweets to CDs to handmade cards and trinkets.
Neither of us are religious or in the "commercial trap" of Christmas,
but we still get a sense of fun out of giving each other lots of little
surprises.
I'm sure it helped develop their sense of days and weeks, and delayed
gratification etc etc.
Yeah, it helps me with that, too.
