Right, when you turn the thing off how are you doing so? If you are
holding the power button down for at least 6 seconds then I see no
reason why the thing wouldn't work when you restart from cold. Failing
that, go into safe mode (Hold the F8 key down as you reboot) and see
if that lets you clear it. Warning, some laptops I've seen / got also
enable you turn off the touchpad / mouse buttons?
I have to go back and try to sort it out. The O2 guy suggested buying a
mouse as it might help free up the cursor. Does that make sense?
Sort of.
Or how
about removing the battery for a while?
Yep, but should have been covered with a cold start.
Any other ideas, arcane key
strokes, voodoo incantations most welcome.
No, this is a PC / Windows so doesn't need any witchcraft. ;-)
Try some of the above and let us know how you get on.
Seriously though, doing what you needed to do would have been the same
on a Mac or PC *except* if it came with a CD the chances are it might
be PC only.
It sounds like network driver issues; perhaps you can upgrade the
drivers with the wireless turned off and then turn it on to see if that
solves the lock up.
I've only seen pointer freeze type errors very rarely in Windows and Mac
systems but my experience is that Windows takes ages to find a wireless
network, and oftentimes the issue is confused by manufacturer's special
wireless software. The built in stuff should be enough. On the Mac the
Airport tends to work instantly and there's no physical switch but of
course you can turn it off in the Airport Menu.
