Something odd has just started happening to my iBook. I am lying in
bed with the laptop on my lap, and four times in the past ten minutes
the screen has blanked out and a message in several different
languages (white text on a dark background) tells me I must restart my
computer. There is no other explanation. It happens when I slighly
shift the iBook, which makes me suspect that there is a loose
connection or something of that kind inside. Is anyone familiart with
this and tell me what might be going on, and, most importantly, how I
might get it rectified?

It's a Kernel Panic - something bad enough has happened to its insides that
it wants you to restart it 'fresh'. The most obvious thing shifting it would
move is the connector cable connecting the screen (lid) to the base
(CPU/HD/etc). However, whilst this may cause the screen to flicker/go
black/exhibit other issues, it's unlikely this would cause a Kernel Panic.
So, er...I don't know. Sorry.

Cheers ... Mark

Yes. since posting, I have googled a bit and as a result looked at the
Panic Log, which is goobledegook to me and I really don't know what it
might be. I am loath to take it to a repairer with the vague
instruction to sort it out as that might cost the earth. I would
prefer to say that this, that or t'other is amiss. Thanks for the
reply.
