Thanks again Jon - i'll let you know about the cable situation either
tonight or in the morning if I find one and have then identified the
iBook specs.
Re the screen. i don't think there is damage to the hinge - it all
works smoothly and lid seems square on the base - if perhaps 0.5-1 mm
displaced backwards 9may be normal tolerance?). The damage (lcd
cracks, black lines) all seems to originate from and poin towards an
impact point about 1/3 of the way up the right hand side behind the
screen bezel. The plastic(?) front screen is not damaged at all -
it's all behind that. On closer inspection, the greyish inner bezel
is standing "proud" of the screen by about 1 mm - bowing up ever so
slightly over the bottom half of the screen. Doesn't look that bad to
my untrained eye - but I bow to your superior knowledge.
Anyways, if you think that the damage I describe would not preclude a
simple lcd screen swap, and so worth the fix, and the machine's specs
are reasonable and it matches the screen you have, i'll probably want
to have a go at it. Would be great for my teenage daughter's
facebooking !
those.
