Re: Running Windows on Mac

MacBook Pro runs 4 GB ram, BTW.

Boot Camp has the slight added speed that avoids chopping
up the audio.

I'm mildly curious: MacSpeech runs on OSX. I can see that you could
use it to feed transliterated text into a Windows program running in
VMware/Parallels, but how do you use it in Boot Camp, which only runs
Windows?

Got my Apples and oranges mixed up.

Chalk it up to senility, I am 80, none of my neurons have fired
for years now, even my synapses have stopped snapping.

Actually, I run both Windows and Mac versions of speech software.

Windows Vista: Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical v. 10.0
really cheapy software app at $1,600 ;-)

Mac OS 10.5.7: MacSpeech Dictate Medical app, which is basically
just the regular $200 basic MacSpeech Dictate v. 1.5.1 with 4 GB of
medical words added, for which MacSpeech charges $599

Because a "Mac Doctor" can not run the usual Windows 3rd-party
medical paper shuffling add-on apps, that Mac doctor is advised to
buy the only Mac supplementary app that will run on a Mac,
namely "MacPractice MD" which runs from $2,000 to $5,000

I do not have MacPractice yet, can not afford it.

It basically allows a MacSpeech user to fill out Windows EMR and EHR
forms by voice, also allows viewing MRI and CAT scans directly from
a Mac _while_ "filling out" EMR forms by voice.

Hard core Windows doctors hate me, as I can fill out most of _their_
EMR forms by voice, but they have no way of filling out
"MacPractice MD" EMR forms, from their Windows setup.

Where was I? Oh yeah, trying to squirm out of my last post :)

ANYHOW, bottom line, there is no way to escape from the
800 pound gorilla named Microsoft, when a Mac user
"does speech recognition" on his Mac.

$MS has that medical market tied up, lock, stock, and barrel.

Most of the time I do not even know whether I am in Windoze
or OS X.

I just dictate, and let the text fall where it may.

All I know is that when I am in Windoze, I had better not be
using VMWare, else my text accuracy will suffer horribly.

Did I manage to squirm out of the trouble I got into
in my prior post?

After all, this long winded "confusion post" should
count for something. ;-)

Seriously, I certainly wish MacSpeech could somehow
grab a noticeable share of the medical speech recognition
market away from $Microsoft$
