Is it worth upgrading the processor from the stock 1.5 GHz core solo,
and if so then what to? I see it takes a Core 2 Duo Mobile T7600
2.33GHz, but at £199 this is not cost effective. I was rather hoping
that the upgrade chips would themselves be 'old hat' by now, and
therefore somewhat cheaper.
Before anyone asks it only has stock 2 x 256MB memory, so that will go
to the max 2GB (£25, Crucial) - as it's a pain getting into these things
I don't plan to open it twice.
It doesn't get particularly heavy use; it's permanently connected to a
telly as my media server, but goodness the iTunes & Front Row interfaces
are slow.
Just do the memory upgrade. It'll make *much* more difference than
changing the CPU would.

I was most impressed when I looked up into the London sky and saw
a star through all the light pollution. A few of us checked some
astronomy references to try and identify it, and we're reasonably
confident that it was Sol. -- Peter Corlett, asr
