Is it possible to lock the icons in place on the desktop? I play WoW
and after a session of play, I find my Mac HD and my One Touch 4 icons
moved, and in weird places on the desktop. Like one icon right in the
middle of the screen and the other bottom left.
This has just started to happen, and seems weird.
Using G5 iMac Power PC.

That usually happens when the game reduces the screen size of your
display; the icons will be moved so they're not offscreen. Exiting the
game will reset the screen size but leave the icons in their new
locations.

Maybe you've changed the game's screen size recently?
As far as I'm aware, the game's screen size hasn't changed. Unless the
game re-sized it? Is that possible?

Yes - games often run at other resolutions than the desktop one. There
might be in-game options to set it, but you have to work with the
power of your hardware as well. There's no way I can run The Path in
1920x1200 on my Mini, for instance.

But that's a workaround, and it shouldn't be necessary - I've noticed
that this always happens with CIDER "ports" of Windows games, I think
the CIDER wrapper switches to the target resolution before leaving the
desktop, then switches it back afterwards. This causes icon shuffle.

The right thing to do is create a new screen instance, and change the
res of *that*. Bloody Windows porters...

(CIDER is a commercial version of WINE targetted specifically at games
developers, for those who don't know that. Many "Intel+Leopard only"
games releases like Spore aren't actually Mac code, they're Windows
code in a CIDER wrapper)
