Q. (and actually think about what you say before replying). Why don't
you have the option to change any of the actual printer settings in
the Prefs area when that's exactly where you go to change the prefs
for pretty well everything else?
Because typically you need to be in the app to know what settings you
want.
You might but I know that I want A4 and not Letter, Draft not Normal
and Duplex not Simplex, as default, before I print anything, always,
on any OS. The reason I know this (no guesses or clairvoyance needed
look) is because the majority of my printing requirement is for draft
printed, duplex (better paper / ink economy) reference stuff, like web
pages or hard copies of e-transactions etc. I'm NOT regularly printing
A4 glossy pictures of my cats or direct printing the labels on my
latest DVD masterpiece.
Really? Well, typewriter should do you then. I always said you have no
actual use for a computer.
And then you *create* *new* *saved* *settings* for the given
situation, which you can name and so re-use elsewhere.
Like I said, very nice to a degree (ie, how long before you have as
many saved combinations as there are combinations), but if you don't
change the setting from what the makers supplied (as per the above
examples) your n00b user is going to end up with a printer error
because they just hit print (Letter on an A4 printer etc).
And the n00b still has to go into Word and set the default document to
be A4 rather than Letter (say), otherwise Letter is what you get.
What default settings would there be? That's the point.
Whatever you prefer to be the default, something you should be able to
do in the Prefs for the printer without having to print or even having
the printer attached (as mentioned elsewhere).
<snip further nonsense>
I'm not surprised (judging how you don't need all the other things
some of us consider standard).
You only consider it standard because of your win-centric approach where
any group of PCs is believed to need a large IT staff going round in the
fascist manner that they do, decreeing to all and sundry what they can
and can't do.
Oh I see, I offer that Windows can do it either way (and sited an
example of why), you know OSX can't, so now my observation about
having the choice is Fascist one? (Ah, now I get it, you on duty
today Tim?)
Your paranoia showing through again.
[1] They are only shortcuts if you know them and you generally have to
know them as they aren't always intuitive (and I don't have a key
marked Cmd so that's even more to think about).
irrelavent side issue.
But something else you can't refute though?
There's nothing to "refute" because that's not what we're discussing.
Which is why I called it a side-issue. Try to stay focussed, OK?
I do, <mouse Spell check, mouse Send>
Except that the spell check doesn't help when you say "sited" instead of
"cited".
