In Disk Utility, select the drive and it'll tell you in the info block
at the bottom of the page what partition map is used. You have to
repartition the drive to change it, and press Advanced to select which
PM you want (which will be GUID).
If I have a new firewire drive arriving and I partiton as I have done
used disk utility and split it into three do I partition using Guid
Partition and if I then clone the OS new mac pro this will boot as
normal off the firewire drive...
Yup.
But as Daniele says, you're better off using Migration Assistant to
import your old kit than you are cloning things - it avoids all this
sort of thing.
