Import to iTunes, and I if I browse the result by artist, I find I've

overwriting the artist name again within iTunes makes no difference.
Argh.
Is the Album Artist field different for the errant track? This can
cause such problems. Another possibility is that this track has some
other fault with its ID3 tags. I imported a few legal MP3s into iTunes
a year or two ago and had all kinds of problems updating tags,
including adding artwork. It turns out that these files had both
version 1 and 2 ID3 tags in them, which was confusing iTunes on
import. Version 1 tags are always found at the end of a file, whilst
version 2 tags appear at the beginning, hence it's possible to have
both versions in a file, but this confuses a lot of software. The fix
was to highlight the relevant tracks in iTunes and use the convert
tags option to convert the tags to none. This clear the tags and
allowed the files to be re-added.
I've also got a copy of Jimi Hendrix "Blues" that only turns up if you
browse by album title or genre within iTunes.
If I browse all, and just select "Jimi Hendrix" then I can see all the
other albums I've got but not this one.
I'd wager that this album has the 'Compilation' field set to yes. The
purpose of this field is to flag various artist albums, allowing the
artists from such albums to be hidden. However many entries in CDDB
have this flag set for other albums, including bog standard studio
ones. If iTunes has been told to keep the library organised, such
tracks will be stored under Compilations as opposed to the correct
artist folder.
