It might be worth asking in microsoft.public.mac.office.word, and/or looking at <http://word.mvps.org/Mac/Word2008Issues.html>. Or tweeting @Schwieb, one of the Word developers in the MacBU.

Many thanks. I did google the problem but not much came up. The MVPS site isn't fantastically helpful either - basically saying it's an OS problem. it did lead me to another NG though, so I'll see where that gets me.
