OSX clutter ... numerous floating (and unwanted by me) windows, left

Or how about a menu on nearly every window?
Oh, wait, that's not OS X :)
;-)
And just how it should be.
I can't think how many times I've gone up to the menu of something
I've got open only to find it doesn't seem to have the options I
expect, then to realise it doesn't even have the name of the App I was
expecting! Then I have to fish about looking for the app (or a tiny
arrow pointing to the app on the dock) to get the thing to show it's
self.
Thats odd - you told me that it wasn't important that the mac was better
at multitasking as you only ever used one app at a time, full screen,
because you couldn't cope with more.
Correct, glad to see you *can* understand what I say and more
importantly mean sometimes (even if it is in a disbelieving /
questioning way). ;-)
Never said I couldn't. Sometimes the question thing is hard for me to
know when you are asking a question or just saying something and adding
a question mark, and sometimes I find the 'wrong' smiley confuses
things, so I read it a few times to see which option is likely.
So what are the other menus and hunting around the dock for?
Because it isn't so easy (for me) to manage the various apps (and sub
panes) as I find I have them scattered about as simply clicking on the
red dot doesn't (more often than not) close the app, just as the green
doesn't maximise.
True, the green dot doesn't maximise (it isn't a maximise button), but
the red dot closes the window (except as you mentioned, in iPhoto where
its behaviour is just wrong),
So now for example, I have Firefox, Agent and Thundirbird all sitting
open on the task bar and Agent full screen. If I wanted to check my
mail I just click on Thunderbird's task button and that becomes full
screen (full screen not partially full screen). If I want to check
something out on the net I click on the Firefox taskbutton and 'boom'
Firefox full screen. If I want to get back to the desktop I can either
right click on the taskbar and select 'Show the desktop' and 'boom'
I'm there or just minimise the app I'm in, it goes neatly back to the
taskbar (obvious to see and easy to access) and show the desktop, in
full (no partial windows in the way etc).
I can see that from your way of working it makes it confusing.
Mine is a bit different in that I only have one or two applications
(never a web browser) that go full screen, and then it is more confusing
as most systems I have multiple screens.
I also don't use the taskbar for much at all, I use the keyboard for
changing applications (mac and PC)
FWIW I rarely use the Start > All Programs thing and possibly why
going int Mac HD > Applications also felt slow to me. Yes I've
produced Aliases on the McDesktop and have had to to make some stuff
persistent, like network shares etc but making persistent shortcuts to
things doesn't seem so easy as under XP (but probably is if you know
the keystrokes which I don't and won't use).
I don't know - I don't do it. I have my main apps in the tray on windows
and start all my applications by typing name on the mac. I haven't found
a way of doing that on the PC that works (although it is starting to in
some small way under vista),
p.s. I don't expect you to 'get' any of that as you didn't seem able
to understand my concept of closed. ;-)
I get what you mean, and I understood your 'concept' of closed, I wasn't
arguing with your concept, just explaining it was a concept rather than
a fact, and confused to why it really mattered.
Also while I get your concept and requirements easily enough, I don't
get why you get so anti and negative about other people having different
requirements
