No, I'm getting the same as Chris here, I did an original backup to DVD
(8 discs), which took two attempts, I have done a couple of monthly
backups, and now it just fails, with no useful information in the logs
either (it just says 'Backup failed'). I really don't feel inclined to
start again.
There's a good reason to start again - think how hard it would be to
restore with one master and umpteen intermediates! Still, I don't like
how this is basically forced by a bug.
Indeed, that's why I am relucatant to start again, and waste another 10
discs if it goes wrong again - it's happened with previous versions too.
Backup does work OK sending some user data to my iDisk, but I have seen
documentation/discussions that recommend keeping these to less than
100MB.
Luckily I do have Time Machine, and a SuperDuper clone (which I run
monthly) as well.
Yes, I'm using TM here too.
Yes, but it's nice to have a copy of the User folder too, at least it
makes an easier job of doing a 'clean' reinstall.
I believe Toast is capable of doing incremental data copies, although I
last tried that about 3 versions ago, IIRC.
One to investigate though, thanks.
