...bar the iphone, which i'm very familiar with but it doesn't fit my
needs, can anyone recommend a decent phone that syncs nice* with OS
X? bonus if it also does Lotus Notes (don't ask).
needs GPS, and a qwerty keyboard or touch screen. oh, and has to not
be WinMo. I'm thinking Nokia E71 at the mo, if anyone's used one?

* nice being address book, ical and preferably itunes/iphoto

Have been looking for a smart(er) phone myself recently. After picking up
a
Palm Tungsten on eBay really cheaply recently (& with fond memories of my
old
Palm III), I'm thinking of a Treo 680 or maybe Centro...

Cheers ... Mark

The missus is a hardened treo user and I've just swapped her 680 for a
Centro. Centro's the same thing in a smaller package and is very
nice. Not being a Palm user I was amazed how fast it was: snap, snap,
snap - instant access to apps. Very very responsive and has been for
years apparently! It's the final thing that's made me want to stamp
on my WinMo phone. No wifi though and they don't really multitask,
but otherwise very nice. They have an apple feel to them, too, if you
see what I mean.

Oh yes - Palm is snappy! Is she happy with the change from the 680 to the
Centro? You could get a WiFi SD card (for the (680) but the Centro uses
microSD - not sure if they're available for that (or will be?).

I like the text input (i.e. writing on the screen) functionality of the
680/Centro (I think you need 'MobileWrite' for that). I do like touch
screens. The upcoming Sony Ericsson G900 looks quite interesting too...

Cheers ... Mark
no wifi via sd card or anything on treo. it's the holy grail of the
treo community and despite it being doable on the Palm Tx it's not on
any treos. the centro's a lovely little thing.

Hmmm...I thought there /was/ a WiFi SD card for the 680?.... (Looks
around)...ah - I see it was workable on the 650 (either via a driver hack or
a WiFi sled that fits on it). Looks like you're right for the 680 though -
no-go! Interestingly there is a miniSD WiFi card available for the Treo
750...

Oh - someone got that WiFi sled working on the 680:

honestly, don't buy a treo on the grounds you'll get wifi working.
the hacks i've seen for them are horrible things that break stuff. it
just isn't going to happen.
