My needs and wants from an OS are nothing to do with aesthetics.
Evidently.
Unless you are using an OS *just* to use it then nor are yours.
Wrong again - really, don't bother trying to imagine what life is like
for other people, you're just not very good at it.
So, you *just* use an OS just to use it then? You don't run any apps
etc (plus I was also talking about hardware design).
Assembling a Windows
PC that apparently doesn't suffer from typical PC maladies -
See, you are still suffering this illusion that PC's are typically
more problematic than the alternatives. You have just bought some PC
hardware so I assume you wouldn't have done so thinking it was going
to be unreliable and as for OS issues just have a quick flick through
this very group!
I indirectly look after quite a few PC's and trust me I'd know if
they were regularly suffering maladies. Maybe you just don't know how
to look after a PC (or choose not to want to know)? Or I wonder if it
is like the youths who buy cheap Chinese scooters and rag the arses
off them then complain when they break? Their choice is either learn
how to ride them more considerately, pay someone to keep fixing it or
pay loads more money for something more idiot proof?
you are the
master. Play to your strengths.
Meh, easy, loads (millions) of people do it.
What I need from a computer is the ability to use it efficiently, and
what I want is that it is a pleasure to use.
Yes, you need it to work you like it to be a pleasure. If Windows was
your only option you would manage.
Unlike casual users who play a few games, doodle about on the internet
and write an email or two, it makes a big difference to me if the
interface is consistent, smooth, easy on the eye and easy to use.
Understood.
For me, Windows is none of those things, all of which could be regarded
as aesthetic values.
Well, the workflow bit is functional but I get yer drift.
It is the difference between an enjoyable experience and an unpleasant
one, assuming both machines are functionally capable of doing the work.
Agreed. And if I was having to work on a machine all day I'd like that
experience as nice as possible. Do you intend to use the Advent in
such a way then, such that you would go through the obvious trouble of
hacking OSX onto it?
Unfortunately I don't have your imaginary nurses to bring me suitable
anaesthetics after spending all day constantly fighting Windows to make
it do what I need it to do.
<sigh> You disappoint me PeeDee, I thought you were a professional
computer user (or at least a computer using professional) so could
handle anything?
Ok, could you give me an example of the sort of thing you really
actually have to do that you find so abhorrent under XP. You have
already offered that you don't remember how to do the more tekky bits
under Windows so maybe it's also a matter of some further instruction?
All the best .. ;-)
