Broadband (2MB is fine, more would be nice with at least 40GB pcm now
that iPlayer is there....)
mobile phone (that's probably optional, but I'd like a package that can
be used with a Blackberry)
and free VOIP calls abroad (France and Germany) - the latter is quite
crucial.

O2 broadband is excellent because it's the same as Be* broadband (www.bethere.co.uk), which is excellent. O2's phone service is ok too.

So, I'd get:
O2 phone contract (either blackberry or 3g iPhone)
+ O2 Broadband (£7.50/month)
+ Skype Unlimited Europe (£3.39/month)

It'll probably cost more that what you're paying at the moment, but the service will be much better than Orange.
