How are much are the enclosures ? I need to get going on this, if you could hear the constant hum this Lacie drive makes it would drive you mad. No point having a near silent mac with this beast beside it.
I'm afraid I've got no experience of buying 3.5" enclosures on their own. As I say, I'd go for a metal/fanless with some good reviews. The reviews of that Samsung mention 'silent'. The HD in my Imac is more or less silent, but for some reason the Mac-fitted HDs are difficult to source - I think they're AV drives.
I completely agree with you btw. The noise floor in my study is set by an external 'silent' Seagate 320GB, so it's switched off except when needed. Noise gets to me and is (of all things) why I chose Macs in the first place.
