Re: External Harddrives

Anyone recommend a quiet external HD around 1TB ? I have a Lacie 500GB
drive but it really is quite loud and vibrates the entire desk. I am
going to move my iTunes library to the external drive.

The Galaxy MetalGear 1TB drive is good, but much depends on which drives
you choose to put in it. The drive seem to be noisier than the fans.

As far as I can tell, the Galaxy is sold as the Iomega 33681 in the UK.
Although squinting at the photos they look similar but not identical.
The Galaxy has a firewire 400 socket on the front.

This looks like it, still not quite right though:

If you want very quiet, these fanless designs are worth a look

But bear in mind they are slow (Firewire 400, ATA) and limited to 750GB.
I have one that I use for iTunes and video storage. It's fast enough to
cope with HD video so I've no real complaints about them.
