Video stutter
I've ripped a couple of DVDs to 1GB avi files to play back on a core duo
Mac Mini, 1GB RAM, 80GB free hard disk space. However, the files don't
play back smoothly, 'glitching' every couple of minutes.
This happens with Quicktime and VLC, although I prefer VLC's settings
for playback.
I can partially fix the problem with a restart. Then, free RAM memory
creeps to almost zero (from about 600MB) and the problem starts again.
For example, I watched an hour of one video (2 hours long) last night
without a problem, glitching started, free memory almost gone, restart,
all's fine.
I assume this is a lack of RAM, and perhaps an extra 1GB would sort it.
Or the memory thing could be coincidence. Or alternative software? I've
more or less ruled out the files as a problem because it happens on the
three I've tried, occurs at random points, and the files play smoothly
when burned to DVD and played back on a standalone DVD player.
Thoughts please? Thanks, Rob.
