OT: Cats and Technology

Yes, I know this is OT, but people in here like technology, and quite a few like cats.....
Since we moved house a year ago, we've had problems with local cats coming in the house, eating our cats' food, and spraying etc. Our cats valiantly defend the house during the day, but are useless (i.e. asleep) at night.
So, after having to clean cat pee off the baby's push chair /again/ I gave some thought to the idea that the cats are chipped, and would it be possible to make a RFID controlled cat-flap.
Luckily, someone got there first - so we bought a 'Pet Porte'. It is rather expensive (£100) but I'd gladly pay that not to have to have a foul-smelling 'Buggy Snuggle' (don't ask). Besides, it ought to pay for itself in a year in cat food savings.
The cats don't need a special collar, I just scanned them with the new cat flap, and now it unlocks when they approach, and locks again after they've entered. Obviously, being idiot cats, they prat about a bit, but after 2 weeks they are getting the hang of it.
It is nicely made, and even I managed to install it - which was a surprise, so I thought I'd recommend it. The only thing I'd point out is that the best price for it is at petporte.com (you can pay an extra £30 elsewhere) and that there is usually a delay in shipping.... I think they sell each month's delivery straight away.
Anyway, that's my little tale of Cats & Technology.
