Oh jeez, I remember in DOS, knowing a geek who used EDLIN from choice. I
even learnt to use it, and for several hours at a time I could remember
how.
Well; half hours.
Then I forgot how. And never needed to know, ever again. Nirvana, of
sorts, achieved.
When I was at SLAC 20 years ago and unix arrived, there were arguments
about which editor should be the standard recommended: vi, ed, emacs,
jove, etc (is etc an editor? - hmmm).
As I had actual work to do I decided to use notepad until the decision
was made and I could "learn" the "proper" editor, and five mins later
was happily coding. Six months later when I was given an ultrix box,
they were still arguing, and I suddenly realised I *was* using a proper
editor - it was the geeks who weren't.
They may be still arguing for all I know or care.
