I downloaded an ISO disk image (and associated Cue *** and CDT file) from http://www.mikedickson.org.uk/codetalkers/ butWell after having a good long look at the "ISO" I can't see HTF
Tiger's Disk Utility does not recognize it and consequently is unable to burn it to an audio CD. It is an album that is not for sale and is only distributed as a free ISO image download. The ISO appears to be in some Windows specific format as the web page recommends IMGBURN to burn the CD. Can
anyone suggest a way to mount this image and burn the CD on
a Mac? Are there utilities to convert one flavour of ISO into
another for example?
anyone has managed to write it to CD. It's a 769MB file, and CDR80s have a capacity of 700MB, even overburning the CD will only give a capacity of about 730Mb so something is badly wrong.
Having listened to the Quicktime preview on the webpage, it really doesn't seem worth the effort.
cue *** and artwork.
I think you're another one who misunderstands me. It's not worth the struggle of downloading, hand editing a text file, working out how the heck to use a command line tool one hasn't had to use for umm a very long time, and burning to CD something that being honest
I would rarely if ever listen to. Not that the music is terrible, it's just not my cup of tea.
However, this is teething troubles for Mac users. Which I have
apologized for, but have not been issues for Windows or Linux users.
As I stated elsewhere neither Mike, Greg or I own a Mac. I we did we'd
have found these things out ourselves and come up with solutions.
I will put Darwin onto one of spare Intel boxes today and see if I can
get Max to work there. Hopefully we'll then have a suggestion we can
link to on the "Codetalkers" page, just like imgBurn for Windows /
Wine users.
As for the disk image size, there's never a one to one relationship between byte count and what actually gets burned onto a CD-R. The "Codetalkers" album is 76 mins long.
Yes, OTOH if it were a raw image I would expect a 1:1 relationship.
I think confusion emanates from calling the binary file and ISO when it isn't.
My bad. We'll change the file extension to BIN and the corresponding
reference in the cue ***.
I note you've skipped around the question of other means of distribution which seems to be because of a desire to piddle about with track gaps and crossfades. I don't think any of that is adding
much to the album and it turns a download into a headache.
OK, if you want to force the supplicants to crawl over broken glass
before approaching the Holy Temple of your music, you're achieving
your aim. If you're looking for an audience you seem to be going about it the hard way.
It vageuly reminds me of the justification for uncommented spaghetti code. "It was difficult to write, so it should be difficult to read."
People that want to buy the album can go to CD Baby in a week or so
once they've added inventory to their stock. Those that just want 1-n
tracks for a player can (for now) go to the official web site and d/l
the MP3s. They'll all be purchasable via all the usual digital
distribution outlets in about 30 days. At which point we'll remove the
MP3 d/l option from the website. Those that want to create the album
themselves with a little hammer and nails work can d/l the image and
get the artwork jpegs. Those that listen to the Quicktime stream for a
test drive and decide it's not of interest to them don't need to do
any of the above.
