I downloaded an ISO disk image (and associated Cue sheet

burn it to an audio CD.
The following *ought* to work but doesn't:
Put the "iso", cue, and cdt files in the same directory In
your terminal of choice, type drutil burn SystemsTheory_Codetalkers_masterimage.cue But this produced
the error
Must specify a valid image path (dmg, iso, cue/bin, and toc).
I tried munging the .cue file in various ways, and after I
deleted the block os REM lines (gack, BASIC-style comments)
the drutil command worked and produced a working CD.
I had also renamed the .iso file to .bin and changed the .cue
file accordingly, and converted the Windows-style line ends
in the .cue file to plain linefeeds, but I doubt those steps
were necessary.

not bother renaming files or changing line breaks, it just
worked. A big round of applause for Richard.

Hi,
Steven Davies-Morris of Systems Theory here. Sorry to learn of
the hoops you chaps have had to jump through to get a copy of the
disk image of "Codetalkers" to burn on Mac. None of us in the
project owns a Mac so we had no real way of knowing what issues
if any might be encountered. However we've been able to burn it
in several programs on over a dozen variants of Linux so we
guessed (hoped) that the cue sheet approach would work across the
board.
As for the disk image itself, it is an "orange book" standard ISO
(i.e. > 74 mins/640mb, the "red book" standard). So a cue sheet
is a requirement for ISO burning on all platforms that I'm aware
of. Whether I as a 30 year *nix software developer or you as Mac
users like it, the vast majority of end-users have some form of
Windows, so we made the largest common denominator decisions for
the ISO image download and a program to use to burn
recommendation.
Next time we do this, when we offer "overfulnoisecascade"
[Nov/Dec] we will make every effort to get hold of a Mac so we
can offer some suggestions on the download page. At the very
least I'll put Darwin on one of the extra Intel boxes around here
in plastic wrap and see what open source burners work (in theory
should be most given the kissing cousin relationship of *nix+BSD
and BSD+Leopard).
In the meantime I'd like to say thank you very much to Richard
for digging deep enough to come up with a solution, and another
thanks to those of you genuinely interested (...well..curious...)
about our music. I shall pass this on to other Mac users who are
fans of Systems Theory that have not yet been able to burn the
disk image.
Those wanting to test drive us without going through the ISO
download process can either go to:
<http://www.last.fm/music/Systems+Theory>
to stream us in good quality MP3, or can d/l our MP3s from the
band's home page where I have unlocked both "Codetalkers" and its
older sibling "Soundtracks For Imaginary Movies". Those files are
in VBR/HQ MP3. Go to the "music" tab, then do the
right-click-save-as process on all 18 tracks, if you think you'd
like to hear all of the tunes.
Comments, feedback, beyond stupid stuff like "best album ever" /
"you guys suck donkey balls" can be left on our "guestbook" tab.
Any other questions there's an email link on the "contacts" tab
that will come right to me.
One final thought about the cue sheet. I am curious about what
would happen if the REM lines were picked up and relocated down
after the last line of instruction for burning the 9th track.
Perhaps I can prevail on one of you to do that and let me know
how that works. The cue is nothing more than a text file with
instructions that all burners supporting the cue/bin cue/iso
protocols are supposed to understand. But if it does work like
that then we'll rejig the cue sheet in that way immediately to
save other Mac users the frustration you guys went through.
Steven: Moving the REM lines to the end of the .cue file doesn't
solve the problem, the error generated by drutil is still "Invalid
path or file specified." So deleting them altogether is still the
way forward.
BTW when downloaded in Safari a .txt extension got added to the
.cue file, I removed this before burning the CD with drutil as
described by Richard.
Hans
Thanks, Hans. I guess for the issue to evaporate we'll have to remove
the REM comments from the .CUE entirely. We can put them into a .TXT
file and make it four files that we'd like people to d/l. Originally I
wanted all the files including the artwork to be wrapped up into a
..ZIP or a .RAR but Mike vetoed that on the grounds of adding layers of
complexity. Which is ironic given dozens of emails I've answered and
music list posts I've made explaining the need for the CUE file. :-)
I'll pass this on to Mike and ask him to modify the "Codetalkers"
webpage ASAP.

Cheers, and enjoy the album.
