<puzzled> Erm, what? Byte is 8 bits. 9 bit memory words are not
bytes, nor have they ever been called so AFAIK.
You can repeat this all you like. You're still wrong.
You can repeat this all you like. You've still provided no evidence.
<http://www.linfo.org/byte.html>
"The number of bits in a byte varied according to the model of computer
and its operating system in the early days of computing. For example,
the PDP-7, for which the first version of UNIX was written, had 18-bit
bytes. Today, however, a byte virtually always consists of eight bits."
That's just another claim from a source I have no trust in at all
because I know nothing at all about it.
Do you always put your fingers in your ears and chant "la-la-la-la" when
you're repeatedly shown up to be wrong?
So it's irrational for me to apply normal scholastic standard when
assessing an alleged authority?
And Elliot Roper's talking bollocks when he makes this claim, is he?

You do well to distrust that part, because it is pure bull***."The number of bits in a byte varied according to the model of computer

The PDP-7 was near enough obsolete before the term 'byte' came into
common use.

Ho hum.
Seems to me that you're having some serious issues with `denial'
yourself.
