Re: Safe way to share folder over internet?

There are actually lots of little files - so using one of the file
exchange websites might prove fiddly?

Not really and you could make a zip archive of all the "little files"
which would make things less fiddly.

One option might be to run a FTP server. You open the appropriate ports on
your router, and provide a username and password for your remote user. You
might even limit access to the user's IP address (if it is static). Windows
has two FTP methods built-in, a command line and Internet Explorer; but
neither are very intuitive. Your user might prefer a GUI client such as the
one from http://www.ipswitch.com/ The user would transfer a file to his PC,
edit it there if necessary, and send it back. You can set up appropriate
access rules for different parts of your file system.

That sounds like the best idea. I'll look into that - thanks!!

Not really, running an FTP server is generally a bad idea. It's a good
way to end up with a compromised server, in this case your Mac, if you
don't know what you are doing. And TBH since you've had to ask how to do
it, you fall into that category.

If you want something fuss-free, I suggest getting an account with
MediaMax http://www.mediamax.com/ which will give you 25Gb of online
storage for free and it won't compromise your computer. It lets you give
access to a folder full of files or you can password protect individual
files.

Even better it works when your computer is switched off.
