I have a 500 gig external USB2 drive where I keep backup, music and video
files. I use TM but not currently for full backups - I'd like to change that.
What I would like to do is split my USB drive in to two partitions: 200 gig
for time machine and 300 for music/video. What would be the best way to split
the drive? Is there any software that will do this without me losing data?
Disk Utility can resize partitions without losing data. Just drag to resize the partition. The pale blue area is the minimum you can resize down to. It will take quite a long time to finish, depending on how much is on the thing you're resizing.
Cough. Disk Utility MAY resize partitions without losing data...
