Yes. don't know what it was, but I am sure google does.

I've had a quick look but nothing obvious. I guess I need to know what
it is I'm trying to do to search for the right thing. I think it's to
be able to see and scroll a 800x480 window on what is a soft 1280 x
768 display? I think I have seen / set that by mistake when installing
Linux ..?

It's the /month that I would have difficulty justifying Woody.

Yes, if its not something you would do a lot it is a pain to have a
contract. However, a bluetooth dongle and a mobile phone and depending
on your plan it could be cheaper.

My PAYG T-Mob telephone plan and my 6310i with no MMS enabled let
alone GPRS / 3G you mean? ;-)

No, I think I've found it, it was 3 ..

http://www.three.co.uk/personal/products_services_/mobile_broadband_/index.omp

On that page I guess it assumes you would be running Windows and if
not click follow the 'Use an apple Mac' section but (as typical) no
'Use Linux' section?

Again, the details state "To use your 3 USB modem you?ll need a few
things. Your computer or laptop needs a minimum of 50MB hard disk
space, 1 free USB port, a Windows 2000, XP, Vista or and Mac OSX
operating system".

Yeah, I think it's something to do with the dongle holding the app /
software and auto mounting when you plug it in (like XP auto running a
CD or opening a pen drive or memory card in a reader)? Just an
'issueette' I picked up on on one of the forums.

Ah, ok.

They describe it as "You don?t have to worry about being fiddling with
settings because the USB auto-installs ? it?s quick and easy." I have
actually seen it install on a Sony Vaio and it did go ok.

Didn't you (and Steve) get the Nokia 770? I considered one but in the
end got the T|X, mainly because I was familiar with Palm / Psion
products (and wanted the PDA features) but also because I'm not very
good with Linux. The reason why the 3e particularly appeals is because
I know that if I can't get on with the Linux I can fall back to
Windows (the devil you know etc). It was similar logic re getting the
Intel Mini.

It is a reasonable point to go from. Yes, I have the 770, and it is a
great thing, especially when we were on holiday in the states -
brilliant wifi reception and we booked most of our hotels through it.

Cool. ;-)

However, there were times a keyboard would have been an advantage.

Indeed, it seems most of the alternatives to the real keyboard have
their shortcomings, especially when entering WiFi security keys (even
with the iPhone / touch etc). The T|X is 'ok' as you get various
keyboards but still not fast.

As I said, it is one of those things that I am in no tearing hurry for,
just that at some point when they are around the right price and easy
enough to get, I would consider.

I'm quite keen to get one but am also not going to go to any huge
efforts to get one. I think TRU have one on display near us so I might
take Jenny down there and check it out [1] before we go any further
(and certainly wait and see what SteveH says when his arrives as I
think he will be using it as I might).

All the best ..

[1] Jenny has given up her 3D Design course (long story) and is now
looking around for something different. At the moment the thought is
along the lines of photo-journalism and a couple of the local papers
have expressed an interest in her. I thought having a 3e with 3g could
be quite good for that role (and us in general)?
