Gmail crud

One of those small things that is hastening the heat death of the
universe...

Mails received from gmail accounts have hectares of crud where there
ought to be nothing except basic headers. This crud is not headers; if I
reveal headers, they appear in addition.

'Normal' headers contain useful information which is readable at a
glance; expanding the headers makes it possible to identify most of what
you might need to know, exceptionally. Gmail's crud is no use at all and
simply obscures what is normally a very useful feature of mail.

Is there any way of suppressing it?

Odd that once again, as with Google Groups, they have managed to do
something deeply antisocial to what is in principle a great service.
