If only that were true ... (as you started it).. like I mentioned
before in_this_instance / location the Macs seem to be (or have been
till this latest batch of iMacs anyway) the least ready or predictable
machines on the campus (like .. the power leads don't get pulled out
of the PC's and lose data as the 'computer' part isn't on the desk

Happens here. There's an old Dell laptop. The power cable
is a very lose fit. The slightest pull, tug, sneeze or flapping of
a nearby butterfly's wings and that's it. Invariably the file
system ends up corruped.

Are you talking about the 'clover leaf' (is it, on that one) mains
power plug (easily to replace and may help) or the low voltage power
plug where it plugs into the laptop (less easy to replace) Rolly?

I guess you don't have a battery in there either or if you do it's
very dead? :-(

I did have a similar problem with a little portable 12" TFT I use when
working on other PC's .. I stuck one of those cable tie pads to the
back and held the low voltage cable to the back of the screen with
that (not much use on a laptop being used portable I know).

All the best ..
