My old G4 Tower is currently running headless due to the video

However, I've noticed a rather irritating thing - I can't change
the desktop picture over Screen Sharing. It just won't change. It
allows me to select another picture/colour but the background
remains firmly fixed on the login picture (the 10.5 default).

I've tried this both as my normal user and as a new user I created
just to test it.

Any ideas? I want to put a plain grey background there for VNC
sessions.

Can you install a regular dumb vnc first, then swap back to using
screen sharing after you've changed the desktop?
