I suppose that some of them queue for the phone, but I'll bet that most
of them queue because it's a small adventure, and they enjoy being with

I thought so .. ;-)
Like the recent MacFest etc ..
The point with that is the people, not the show or the computers. The
show is rather dull, unless you want to buy something, which most people
don't really. The point is a meeting with people you talk to a lot but
don't get to see much.
Yes, I know, I agreed "Like the recent MacFest etc .."
I don't know about the point of queueing for the iPhone, not something I
would do, but they seem happy doing it. I would imagine it is the same
as something like wimbledon, but I don't really get that either.
Nor do I, but I *understand* why someone might queue for a yearly
spectator event, not to get a consumer product you could get without
queuing two days later.
Ok, I use a PC a lot (build / fix them
etc) but I really can't say I'd want to go to a meeting of 'like
mind's' any more than I would a 'spanner convention' just because I
use spanners?
I have however gone to several of the BMW motorcycle rallies where we
have been able to include them on one of our motorcycle camping
holidays, not because we specifically want to go there. We aren't into
motorcycles to such a degree that we would use that as a focus, the
'point' for us is using them.
So exactly the same then.
?
You are interested in the machines themselves (building PCs), we are
mostly interested in doing things with the machines.
Erm, my 'use' is the machine my 'interest' is partly that and the
physical connection with the hardware. ie, I don't 'just' build them
and put them in the corner.
So, I have a phone (like I guess all of those who were queuing for an
iPhone). If I wanted another phone I would see what was about and buy
something once it had been out a while, once the price had dropped and
(probably) when I stumbled on a deal somewhere. It wouldn't be (say) a
'Garmin' phone because I happen to like Garmin GPS products and I
certainly wouldn't camp out to get one! ;-)
All the best ..
