I just ordered a new hard drive, which has turned up, DOA. This is my
first, out of many, and the first time I ever strayed from a Seagate
drive.
I hope it's just a one off, and I have contacted the vendor on eBay.
The unit is a Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 500GB SATA II drive. According the
Hitachi, and all the forums I can find, this drive does work in older
G5s, and autosenses the slower SATA interface. I also tried it in my
external 'Oxford Chipset' box, and it still doesn't show up.
These things happen I guess, but I'll post the response from the vendor.
He may tell you to claim it on Hitachi,
He might, but you won't have to guess what the reply will be!
