How can judgement be involved if one system simply can't do what *I*

platforms, neither are appropriate for my needs.

Which are what, exactly? How precisely do they differ from our needs?

Well, the specific one that seems cause Macs issues is the
availability of and the ability to run high spec games, something I've
always enjoyed now and again.

Well, there you are, you see. I haven't the slightest interest in
playing "games", whatever they may be.

By contrast this Mac Pro has five screens connected (three are hung on
the wall), with a corresponding extended desktop. This is a trick that
Windows has only learnt in the last few years, but that you have been
able to do on a Mac since 1986. Three of the screens run our network
monitoring system, the others I use to do work.

As I've said before, T i m , you are happy with XP etc because you
have low expectations of how an OS should behave.

Because it does what I need in a way that I find logical and does so
easily and reliable, yes. See, I don't understand why anyone would
put any importance of how pretty an icon looked

You keep going on about "hand-crafted fine art icons" as if this was of
some importance. Hmm, I suppose it might help prevent eye-strain under
some conditions.

if still couldn't run
the most basic of everyday apps, like (the reall full bodied) MSN

What is MSN?

or support 'any' USB cam?

I haven't found an unsupported device yet.

I buy an RC model simulator (hardware and
software) and when I get home I find it isn't supported by Macs. I'm
not saying that you can't get similar that will but I don't want to
have to go looking about for alternatives or compile patches to allow
stuff to run under OSX that would have worked straight out of the box
re PC/XP. So no matter how secure / pretty / smooth / secure ANY
alternative might be it's no use to me if it doesn't do what I need,
even if it does do some of the things I do better / smoother / safer?

So stick with that then, as we all keep saying.

We use Macs because we
don't see why we should put up with something inferior.

And that's fine. We are all happy then?

Well, we are. But we think you might not be, as you seem to have a need
to be here making negative comments.

XP, it has to be said, is not so bad when compared to its predecessors.
The earliest useable version of Windows was probably 98 - you could get
work done and it doesn't crash often enough to do more than irritate.

Well, I can't say I've ever 'suffered' this crashing to which you
refer but then that may well be a function of the typical use I put a
machine to. Not doing those things most_likely to cause issues etc.

One machine I use is rarely able to shut down properly. Usually you wait
a few mins for the "It is safe to turn off ..." message, only it never
comes.

But that was some 15 years after the Mac came out. Plenty of time, you
would have thought.

Agreed. But in all that time I was able to 'enjoy' the benefits of
mass appeal (and remembering I wasn't generally suffering the issues
it seems you were) vis a wealth of compatible hardware and software.

In all that 15 years you were using DOS, because that's all there was
(well, there were those joke systems called WfW and Win 3.11).

If you are only here, as you said to Mr. Kennedy, to irritate us, then
you are a self-confessed troll.

No, of course that's not the reason I'm here Tim, as it seem those who
don't have a huge chips on their shoulders or aren't fanboyz or
pompous arses seem to have worked out ages ago. However, if one of the
aforesaid starts spouting off I have the right to offer my reply (this
isn't an Apple advocacy group either remember). As for Mr Kennedy,
he's now sitting in my 'nob' file, till he pulls himself together
anyway! ;-)

And why do you have this inferiority complex about an "inner circle" in
this NG?

No, it's just a lighthearted 'outsiders' observation Tim.

So you consider yourself an "outsider"? Not allowed to join the "inner
circle"?

Perhaps you'd like to tell us who you perceive to be its
members, and what are the criteria for joining.

Well. Just take a look back through this thread .. look at all the
'fun' some have had with their imaginary sub stories etc, some of whom
rarely actually contribute anything computer related. Also note those
names who *haven't* appeared, but who are typically active and
supportive members of this group (even to me) ... does that help paint
you a picture?

Not really, I don't study this NG to that level of detail.

Do you also think it's a coincidence that the real trolls often
support me (in spite of me not knowing any of them etc) re responding
to some who really (still) haven't learnt to accept me for who / what
I am and respond like David just has (or a minority typically do),
that the trolls may just sometimes be saying things that many others
would just love to say but don't want to upset the cart ... and just
look who they typically say it to .. who they emulate ... ?

That's because you are both having a go.
