There _is_ a solution; you put in your MAXIMUM bid at any time prior to
the end of the auction. Then, unless someone else is prepared to pay
more, you are guaranteed to win.
I normally do, but sometimes you think having been outbid, well maybe I
would have gone back with another few quid above what I thought I was
prepared to pay, or even £50 depending on the price of the item, but now
you've missed it.
