Connect ADSL modem/router to VM cable modem?

Is there a way to connect my VM cable modem to a Belkin F5D7630? I want to
use the Belkin as a switch, with wired ethernet to the iMac, and wireless
access for the iBook. The only way I can see to connect the two is to plug
the ethernet cable from the VM modem into one of the four ethernet ports on
the Belkin (are these 'out' only though? Does the Belkin expects its incoming
signal through the RJ11 socket?).

I have tried to connect the iBook, and although it can 'see' the Belkin, I
can't get on line. I played with some settings, but do I need to somehow
switch off the modem part?

Cheers ... Mark
