Hi Sarah,
I think you've had the right idea, mate. I've just begun a download
(45MB) and it was going to take 3 *HOURS*! Cancelled it and headed
over to thinkbroadband.com and did a half-dozen speed tests. The
upstream speed was between 5 and 10 times faster than the downstream
every time. I don't know whether you're familiar with the graphical
layout they use for the results, but they colour your results red and
then compare and contrast them to standard speeds. My downstream speed
was first on the chart every fecking time (i.e. slower than a 56k
modem!) It's been becoming gradually slower for the past week or so
now, with many sites refusing to load at all.
Who with?
Can I get through to technical support? Can I bollocks.
I've hardly ever had to call a technical support, fortunately.
I'm going to have to have a word with my father (as he pays the bill
and loads of his golfing buddies have his address) and ask to change.
Do let me know how you're getting on with Virgin as, once upon a time,
not all that long ago, they didn't have a very good rep to put it
mildly.
Well, it's a little slow browsing tonight (but it is Saturday I
suppose), and online gaming seems to suffer a little (doesn't bother me
personally), but downloads are still super fast - the iWeb one took less
than a minute, including installation.
I was with NTL a few years ago, but never really had any great bother
TBH. The only problems I had were one where the council had cut the
cable into our house, and that caused recurring problems later, and
another where my modem died, and it took me a few days to convince them.
It's definitely not worse than my connection to Eclipse, and in the main
is mostly much better if anything.
I'll see how the changeover on my phone calls goes though.
